B.E.D.S. #5

So many things have been going on. I wish the world could slow down for just a bit so I can find my bearings.

Hope you all are getting on a little better than I am this weekend.

B.E.D.S. #4

I had kind of a relaxed saturday... but it was nice to be boring. my day consisted of sleeping in til 1pm, reading for classes, watching tv online, copious amounts of sour patch kids, and a sandwich. looking forward to tomorrow. i think it should hold a bit more promise :] goodnight all!

B.E.D.S. #3

I could do what I originally planned for my blog today and get really mad about the textbook industry but I'd rather just leave you today with how I'm feeling right now. To do this, and to do this simply, I leave you with this, one of my favorite songs. Lovely, empowering, and gentle.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Silver Stallion by Cat Power <3

(just a random video I found with the song.)

B.E.D.S. #2

I made dinner today. It was amazing. Bandito Turkey Burgers :] (if you go to school with me, or work at the centrum, you know that this is one of my favorite things ever). I am very proud of myself because I don't cook. I bake. And, I was full well ready for it to be terrible but, we all liked it.

Anyhow, I had a bunch of new classes today, they all seem like they are going to be really interesting but, they all just seem like they are going to be SO much work. But I had a nice break in the day when I got to hang out with one of my friends that I hadn't seen for a while and it was amazing! She is also roommates with 2 of the girls I went to Britain with and so seeing them was really great too :]

I think that's about it for today. Maybe tomorrow will be more interesting.

B.E.D.S. #1 (Blog Every Day in September)

Most people take part in BEDA (Blog Every Day in August/April) but I missed out on that this time around so, I made BEDS instead! This is going to be huge! You just wait and see. Anyhow, the rules: 1) Write a blog post everyday for the month of September.

That's it. It's so easy, you can do it too! (take that as peer pressure!) PEER PRESSURE!

---

So, school started today. I haven't had class yet. Waiting for 7.00 PM.

I stayed up til 4.00 AM this morning. Not because I was excited or anxious like the night before your first trip to Disneyland, or as I'll admit, before every trip to Disneyland or Magic Mountain for that matter but, because I had homework. A project. A project that I had ALL summer to finish and turn it in on the first day of classes.

Of course, like the seasoned student that I am, I left a generous portion of this project to be completed just hours before it was due. You know... just to start the year off right. And although I am severely exhausted today, I enjoyed every minute of the process.

During the spring semester, I took a class called Magical Britain where we studied, explored and discussed different magical/fantastical elements of the British culture. We covered topics such as Arthurian tales, celtic culture and neolithic rituals. Needless to say, it was one of the most amazing classes I've ever has the pleasure of taking. But that's not even the cool part. After school let out for the summer, our class went to Scotland, Wales and England for 3 weeks! We got to see and experience first hand this truly magical culture we had just studied. The trip was ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! (I could talk about it for hours so, if you'd like to hear more specifics or have any questions, shoot me an email.)

So our final project for the class was a journal consisting of the following:
- 16 thoughtful journal entries on the places we saw
- 8 Celtic knots
- 1 Coat of Arms
AND
- We had to write our own Arthurian Tale!

I knew pretty much what I wanted to write about right off. Morgan Le Fay. A lot of people hate her but, I think she is just misunderstood. YES, OKAY! She is crazy but, aren't we all? Anyhow, my point is, I was pretty certain of my story, that is, until I started writing it. It came out as a poem, which I wasn't expecting (but I am happy with it now). My general perception on relating stories through poem is this:
Poems don't care what the story is! They tell you what the story is! And sometimes, it's just best to listen...

So, a lot of people have been asking me for the finished product so I'm posting it here. Please read it if you feel so inclined. Feedback is encouraged but not necessary. I hope you enjoy it.

A Brief History

There once was a boy named Arthur
He had a sister named Morgan Le Fay
And like every pair of siblings do
They fought each and every day

They were wards to Sir Ector
And his son Sir Kay
And like every good knight
In every tournament they’d play

One day there was a tourney
And Sir Kay forgot his sword
Arthur went quick to fetch it
For he was a loyal ward

He searched high and low
And Kay’s sword could not be found
Arthur soon spied another
In a stone upon the ground

He thought not twice
And pulled it from its place
When he returned with it
There was surprise on every face

“Where did you get that, boy?”
“Where did you get that sword?”
“I fetched it from the stone,
Outside the home of our Lord”

“Can you show us son?”
“Can you do this once more?”
Arthur nodded to them
Of this he was quite sure

First others tried
But each man did fail
Arthur, though a boy
Was the only to prevail

The crowds flew down
And knelt upon their knees
In unison they said, “All hail Arthur,
Our beloved King!”

Many a thing changed for Arthur
He was crowned and now had knights
Things had changed for Morgan too
But they still had their fights

She thought is was unfair
She never got to try
To pull the sword from the stone
And wished Arthur would just die

Then she would be Queen
And to her, things would be right
She swore to make it happen
And would try with all her might

Much time did pass
And Arthur was now a man
He had many loyal knights
But of Lancelot he was a fan

Arthur would rule
And Lancelot would defend
If ever in any worry
It was for him that he would send

On a seemingly normal afternoon
Another jealous knight made claims
That Lancelot was not chivalrous
And had laid with his dame

Though these remarks were false
Arthur could not sit still
He ordered a punishment
At the other knights will

Treated unfairly
Lancelot felt the sting
Arthur never thought
What his actions might bring

Arthur couldn’t have favorites
This they both knew
But with their friendship now tainted
They both withdrew

Morgan soon saw
This rift between friends
And thought to herself
“Is this really their end?”

Lancelot and Morgan
Never got on very well
Now they both were angry
And on this they could dwell

Dismissed by a brother
And wronged by a friend
They’d talk to each other
And helped the hurt mend

More time had passed
And things didn’t change
Though thing weren’t different
Arthur felt strange

He’d make rounds through the castle
And looked for odd things
Not thinking, not caring
What knowing would bring

One day he heard a noise
From just beyond a door
And there lie his best knight
And sister on the floor

Shocked and upset
He called for his knights
Lancelot bid Morgan goodbye
And went on to flight

Away he did get
But Morgan was stuck
And with Arthur’s hatred
She was well out of luck

Sentenced to the stake
To fire and flame
She hope Lancelot would save her
And was thinking the same

Some days did pass
With her locked away
Until she was called forth
“Come, Morgan Le Fay”

Being led to her end
With no hope in sight
She thought of her actions
And knew they were right

Being bound to the stake
She became ready
Even with this
Her nerves remained steady

Steady and sure
Oh, yes, of course
All up until Lancelot
Rode up on his horse

Everyone startled
Then he came quick
Unbound her wrists
And rode away from the thick

Together they drove
Straight through the day
Not needing to guide
For the horse knew the way

Off to his castle
A place they’d be safe
He apologized there
And of course she forgave

Because he was true
And because he was kind
He knew he’d have men
Who would back up his mind

They knew Arthur would come
To finish them now
It was just and right
The only thing he knew how

Alas, they were right
One morning he came
Along with three hundred
But it was all just the same

Lancelot too
Had his men at his side
Today they would fight
And together they’d ride

Come together they did
In the spilling of blood
Crashing down on each other
With the force of a flood

One life for another
So quick were the blows
A fight like a tide
With its highs and its lows

The King and his Knight
Met glances at last
They charged for each other
And their weapons met fast

Time dripped by
And their shadows grew tall
At last a blow was made
And the King did fall

Silence and sadness
From all that were there
Breathing in heavy
That thick, cold air

What was done was done
And nothing else was said
That night passed slow
And the sky was red

The red turned to pink
Then came the next day
They were crowned King Lancelot
And Queen Morgan Le Fay

Challenge #13: My Car (fail)

So, I know I still have 23 minutes but I am taking the defeat on this challenge. But I did put forth good effort on this one. I washed and put gas in IVY this week. AND I tried 4 times to get my oil changed, but apparently everyone here is having car troubles and so they were always way too busy to take me. I would have done it myself, but I most likely would have fouled something up and made matters worse. So this means it's time for a punishment! If I don't get any suggestions, I might try to come up with something but come on, someone can come up with a good punishment.

Anyhow, Challenge #14: COMING TO A BLOG POST NEAR YOU

Challenge #13: My Car (wash)

So today I went to get Ivy washed. Check it out. (I'm slowly learning how to add stuff to my videos so they aren't so lame. may have just made it worse. but it was fun)

Going to get the oil changed tomorrow :]

Challenge #13: My Car

So, over the past few months I've severely neglected my car. Every day saying I will do something about one problem or another. My poor baby, as you know if you read my previous posts, shut off on me the other day. Ivy has been so good to me and I want to treat her like the awesome car she is. So without further ado,

Challenge # 13: Wash, Top off (well, to 3/4 tank (another problem I have to fix but don't have the funds for)), oil change (it's been over 6,000 miles since I've changed it :/ ) and clean the inside (I've just moved so I still have a bunch of stuff in my car)

So
1) WASH
2) GAS
3) OIL CHANGE
4) CLEAN INSIDE

i <3 you, ivy

Challenge #12: the after

Done with a challenge before the week is even half way over! What? Yeah, you heard me! I pwned this challenge!

ANYHOW, here is what my rad shoes look like now:

As a little added bonus, I've decided to make a little video to go along with this challenge. I'm thinking about making this a more regular thing. Let me know your thoughts. Just fyi, the youtube I set up for this blog is http://www.youtube.com/user/swimmingwithbunnies

Challenge #12: the before

So for my DIY challenge, I decided that I'd make something I already have into something that I'd like to have more.

I saw these pretty neat shoes the other day when I was trolling the mall after playing with the puppies at barkworks (guilty pleasure). I really wanted to get them but they were like $48! "And I said, 'Oh no!' " And left, mostly because I didn't have the funds to buy them, and what money I did have, I needed to use for gas. (Today, my car stalled and shut off on me on the way to the gas station. She's better now, but she feels a bit sad when I drive her... I'll take good care of you soon sweetheart!)

Anyhow, I have these shoes that I got when I was in a musical and they are really plain. My idea is to jazz 'em up and make them a bit more fun. We'll see how this turns out.

Here's what they look like now:

Challenge #12: DIY

Challenge #12: Starting Sunday, August 8th Ending 11:59pm Saturday, August 14th is to do a DIY style project.

So just for clarification, challenges will now start on Sundays 12:00am and end Saturdays at 11:59pm.

I've already lost a day. woot. let's get started...

Challenge #11: Way Past Due (a new beginning)

Challenge #11 was to go some place new. I kinda used this as a copout because I knew I'd be gone for 3 weeks to go to the UK. So I did go some place new :] It was brilliant.

Now, I understand I've not been keeping up with my challenges so I'd like to start again. I think this time it's going to be a bit different though. I will still be doing challenges, but I think I'll be adding a few random bits as well. I've been working on a lot of things here and there and I'd like to share some of that with whoever is reading these.  Anyhow, that's all for the moment. Hope to be posting something soon. Maybe later today...

Challenge #10: Day 2 (catch up)

So I successfully didn't watch TV online for a week. Challenge #9: DONE

Challenge #10 (clock started yesterday): blow bubbles every day.

Yesterday I blew bubbles in one of the parking lots at school whilst jamming out to AC Newman. It was a good time.

Today... just blowing bubbles in my room :]

I was doing no damage until I took this photo. now I have bubble solution all over my computer... great.

Challenge #9: Day 5 (sudden realization)

So, I've been doing alright with out the online tv. It's been a bit tough, but I've been a tad more productive. But as I came on here to make and update post, I realized, "I never said I coulnd't watch movies online, just tv!" and so, I think I might make use of that. But I really shouldn't. We'll see what happens. I'll try not to.

Here is one of the things I got done while not watching online TV this week:
(sceptrum verus)

Challenge #8: Day 7 (probably the only one that's made sense)

Homework vs. Sleep:

Sleeping in is good
If you don't have loads of work
Otherwise, it's bad

Challenge #8: COMPLETE

Punishment #1: nobody has given me any ideas... so I've decided to make Challenge #9 both a challenge and a punishment.

Challenge #9: No Online TV

Just to make it clear why this sucks, I don't have a regular TV and I have become addicted to watching TV online, especially since I did the seasons challenge, and I've also fallen in love with many new shows I never watched before. It has become an unhealthy habit and I am willing to admit that. I just started watching "Bones" (if you've never watched it, I highly recommend that you do) and I just finished Season 1 (which leaves you on the HUGEST cliffhanger!) and you have no idea how much I want nothing else but to sit and watch all the episodes through season 5, which they are currently in.

This challenge/punishment may kill me.

Challenge #8: Day 6 (oh so soft)

Too Soft:

Wanna be my love?
I've got an Egyptian scarf
You now must say yes

Sunday, April 25, 2010

Challenge #8: Day 5 ("friendly black optimistic advice")

A Reminder:

Things are falling down
But still we must pick them up
There will be good days

Saturday, April 24, 2010

Challenge #8: Day 4 (dying? ... yeah)

As I Lay Working:

Trying to finish
Without going all crazy
Dinner was yummy

Friday, April 23, 2010

Challenge #8: Day 3 (people come and people go)

Off to Germany:

How the days went fast
From one Friday to the next
Now my friend is gone

Thursday, April 22, 2010

Challenge #8: Day 2 (5,7,5)

Lunch Withheld for Lack of Spanish Skills

It rained with the sun
The sky was partly cloudy
My food held ransom

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Challenge #8: Day 1 (i'm back!)

Challenge #8: Write a daily haiku.

This Morning:

The days came with rain
Now the wind is blowing strong
No surprise I'm sick

Sunday, April 18, 2010

Challenge #7: Day 7 (way late :/ ...)

So, I finished the challenge and delivered over 7 items I had borrowed or had been left in my possession.

Also, I have not given myself a challenge for this week, so I will be accepting punishments in the comments of this post.

I will be back on Wednesday with a new challenge!

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Challenge #7: Day 1 (thou shall not steal)

This weeks challenge goes a little something like this...

I am in the possession of things that belong to 7 other people (things they gave to me willingly... to borrow or that they forgot). I must return these things to their rightful owners by Tuesday.

Challenge #6: Day 4, 5, 6, and 7 (finished)

I haven't really had the chance to update this but here are the rest of the slug bugs for this week. I hope you enjoy!

Friday, April 2, 2010

Challenge #6: Day 2 & 3 (dark and light)

So yesterday, I didn't get the picture of a Slug Bug until... 10pm ish

And today I made a conscious effort to get a picture that you can actually make out...

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Challenge #6: Day 1 (Slug Bug Silver)

I'm sure you've guessed it.

Challenge #6: Take a picture of a different VW Bug each day.

so... here is Slug Bug Silver. I drove all around my sister's neighborhood thinking finding one would be a piece of cake... It wasn't. It took me 7 minutes to find one!

Challenge #5: Day 7 (DONE)

I watched the first season of the following shows (short commentary on what I thought of them):

United States of Tara: really good. great mix of comedy and drama.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: really funny. so wrong it's good.
How I Met Your Mother: funny and a great story. basically "legendary".
Castle: so good. each one is intense but good humor in it too.
Parks and Recreation: great characters. similar feel as the office.
Weeds: holds you attention. great story and characters. awesome.
Nurse Jackie: honestly watched it because it was short. surprised me with great drama in story lines.

I liked this challenge. It gave me the opportunity to try out a bunch of shows I've never had the chance to follow and I really liked most of them. I suggest doing this if you can. You don't have to do seven shows or even do it in a week, but give a few new shows a go. I think you'd like it.

Challenge #6 which begins tomorrow will be announced later this evening. (I hope)

Challenge #5: Day 6 (the end is near)

I've watched a season of six different shows. 1 more to go and I've got 21 hours. I'm going to bed. See you all at a more reasonable hour.

Pleasant dreams
xoxo

Challenge #5: Day 5 (i might actually have a chance)

Here are the standings so far:

Completed:   season 1 of United States of Tara
season 1 of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
season 1 of How I Met Your Mother
season 1 of Castle

In Progress: season 1 of Parks and Recreation

I might actually be able to complete this!

Saturday, March 27, 2010

Challenge #5: Day 3 (progress...)

Finished the 1st season of United States of Tara!
Watched first 3 episodes of the 1st season of Castle.
Watched 3.5 episodes of the 1st season of How I Met Your Mother.

So much TV!!!

Thursday, March 25, 2010

Challenge #5: Day 2 (finally a challenge...by default)

I've decided this weeks challenge is to watch an entire season of a show I've never seen before for each day. So, 1 season from 7 different shows I've never followed over the span of a week (from yesterday). The seasons can be watched at any time (i.e. I can watch a season of one show and then half of another in one day or half one day and the other half the next) So, no particular order is necessary.

So far, I've watched 10 out of the 12 episodes in season 1 of United States of Tara. Love it so far by the way. Maybe I'll do better review of it when I'm finished with the season. If I have time that is... I'll be watching a lot of TV!

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Challenge #4: Day 7 (You Better Believe It!)

That's right. I completed another challenge. I wrote 7 letters. Mailed 6 of them and because it was okayed by the person who gave me the challenge, I had one sent by messenger. Yup. Hand written... and because I thought it would be even more "old school", I made my own envelopes. That's right! One is made from a napkin. That one was for the guy who gave me the challenge and the others are made from paper bag. Bought the stamps today and mailed all of them at 11:59pm Tuesday. Way to wait for the last minute. I know. By the way, sorry for this challenge being not being super exciting or anything update wise.  But, here is a nice picture of all of the letters right before I mailed them out.

Next challenge is: You will find out later today... or when I do... this means... less time for me to complete it. Whatever it is, I need to get it done by next 11:59pm Tuesday night.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Challenge #3: Day 7 (purple, yellow, and all the others)

I've been without internet as well as the capability to move pictures to a computer that does have internet... which I couldn't access... I'm dog/house sitting currently and can't get onto the internet at the house, so now I'm at school between classes updating :]
Anyhow, Sunday I wore purple and went to a King's game. Unfortunately, they lost, but it was still a good game and I had a lot of fun hanging out with my family. We ended up sitting really close to this guy who won an Olympic gold medal for team bobsledding. The medals this year look really cool.

Yesterday, I wore yellow. Exciting thing about the day... the power at school went out and my friend Laura got the teacher to cancel class. (Way to go birthday buddy!)

Today, I had to wear all the colors at once. So, what did I wear? My bathing suit. Duh! And my sweet snap bracelet that I got from Chegg.com since my bathing suit didn't have orange hearts on it. Going to see "An Education" today with my sister FINALLY, then I've got an Art midterm. Not looking forward to that, but at least after 9pm I won't have to worry about it anymore.

As always, looking for more suggestions. Please post any ideas, good or bad, in the comments. Thanks!

Starting tomorrow: Challenge #4: Write a letter to somebody every day and mail it (old school style).

any one have any stamps or envelopes I can have???

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Challenge #3: Day 4 (blue)

(I'm rambling... beware) Waking up at noon is the nicest thing. I realized I've been wearing all blue since I woke up. Plus my sheets and comforter are blue. My towels are blue.
Today my neighbors are having a house warming party. I'm looking forward to that. Then I'm of tho dog sitting. Just a heads up. King's game tomorrow so the color of the day will obviously be purple. I'm just so happy with like 95% of what's been going on in my life. I've had to deal with some pretty deep things as of late and I think I'm getting better at handling myself. Am I finally growing up? (fear!)
Hope whoever reads this has a remarkable day! Cheers!

Challenge #3: Day 3 (green)

best morning: wearing green. did well on test. did bad on test. new friends. professor's house. tea and crumpets. chickens named Satan. ilml

Challenge #3: Day 2 (orange)

Meh... sorry this is late. Busy day! And not going to be going to bed tonight, bad life decisions. But hey, I prefer the night. This way I can enjoy every bit of it whilst reading for class! Today's color^ orange :P

Challenge #3: Day 1 (red)

Picture taken this morning before going to elementary school. 1 color down, 5 to go!

Challenge #2: Day 7 (salsa... mmm :)

I honestly though about failing this one today... but I was too close. TOO close. So yes, I have completed the NO MEAT challenge. If you haven't guessed it already, I got through this meatless day with salsa :] If I can't have one thing I love, then, I WILL HAVE ANOTHER! I love this salsa though. It's the best. Most of what I consumed today was probably this salsa.

PS. Tomorrow starts Challenge #3: Wear a different color of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet) everyday and 1 day I have to wear all the colors at once. There is no particular order in which I have to wear the colors. The REASON for this week's challenge is that it's PRIDE WEEK here at my school and I figured this would be a good way to show my support!

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Challenge #2: Day 5 (something old, something new, something borrowed, something... tofu?)

The weekend has finally come to a close and I've been less productive than I'd like, but what's new (something old)... At least I've still kept on track with my challenge. The only really note worthy piece of news is that for the first time yesterday I tried tofu. Verdict: it was better than I had expected, but it's not something I'd add to my everyday eating. Other than that, I'm looking forward to this coming friday because I'll finally be able to showcase my ballroom dancing skills and I'll be wearing a dress my sister gave me over christmas vacation (something borrowed) ... had to come up with something for that... :] . Two more days of not eating meat then, a NEW CHALLENGE (something new)!

What will it be? You'll just have to wait and see.

Friday, March 5, 2010

Challenge #2: Day 3 (late night snacks)

Another successful day toward the completion of the no meat challenge. Getting late night snacks is a bit difficult seeing as only fast food places are open late... my solution. Jack in the Box curly fries and vegan tacos! second night in a row i've had vegan food. pretty legit.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Challenge #2: Day 2 (sushi... again?)

Ok, I wasn't expecting this either, but I guess sushi is going to be a reoccurring subject this week.
Here's the deal... I woke up for my morning class and because over night I had a charlie horse, I woke up... UNABLE TO WALK, as well as ridiculously tired from my lack of sleep. What a great day to have BALLROOM DANCE at 9am, right? Right. So after somehow managing to get to dance (only observed since I couldn't move like the natural prima ballerina that I am *cough* yeahright *cough*), I did some group work for a project at the caf, where I know plenty of the staff who made fun of me for being there from breakfast until lunch. I should have grabbed something for lunch before I left, but decided instead to be an idiot. I took a quick nap hoping to gain some energy before heading off to work, but when I woke up realized, "Hey! I only have enough time to get to work... no food! Oh no!"
So I raced to get something that is pre-made at the caf... and the only thing that didn't have meat was the cucumber avocado sushi... which I don't understand why it's sushi, but am very grateful for it's existence nonetheless. I unfortunately didn't get to eat said "sushi" until I got back from work. However, receiving news of a raise sure made me forget my hunger pangs!

I think tonight for dinner I'll be having a vegi-burger (one thing my school is really good at)!

Oh, and just incase anyone was wondering... I've just been informed by my roommate and Snapple that armadillos always have four babies and they are always all the same sex. Interesting.

Challenge #2: Day 1 (sushi)

It's only the first day into my no meat challenge and I've been invited for sushi... this would be no problem if I didn't include fish into the meat category, which, I don't understand why people would ever separate it in the first place (which is why I didn't). Well, if I go out, I won't be eating any sushi. So far so good in the challenge though :]

Just an Intro & a Quick Update on the Challenges

So, I've decided to make this blog to keep track of the weekly challenges that I've decided to start doing a week ago. The first one was to drink 18 cups of tea in one week. I have just completed this one and starting today (my weeks run from Wednesdays to Tuesdays) I cannot eat meat (fish included) for a week... you'll get the idea soon enough. I am always accepting challenge ideas, so please leave them in the comments if you have any (thank you in advance!) So here is a an example of what I'll be posting (copied from my Facebook where I started this challenge idea...)

(2/24-3/2)
Goal #1: drink 18 cups of tea

2/24 (7:47pm) ... first cup into the challenge!
